Where are we now?

The 2024 - 2025 Solar Splash Team is split up into three main subsystems: Electrical System, Mechanical Dry Test System, and the Data Aquisition System

Electrical System
Goal: To efficiently convert solar energy into power to operate the boat's components while ensuring reliable energy management and distribution.
Approach: To use "meta" electrical system used by previous year's finalists, making necessary adjustments based on the results from the dry test system to optimize performance.
Challenges: The previous team's electrical system was waterlogged, rendering most components unusable; therefore, each component must be thoroughly tested, and a budget for new components must be established.

Dry Test System
Goal: To simulate an aquatic environment and verify the performance of the electrical components and their connections without installing the Electrical System into the boat.
Approach: To attach a shaft with a brake rotor and caliper to apply a load onto the motor.
Challenges: Finding a safe way to properly apply load to a high powered shaft.

Data Acquisition System
Goal: To design a system to track data that works cohesively with the other two subsystems.
Approach: Design a communication system for efficient data transfers and utilize technology such as an Arduino and LabVIEW for real time data analysis and visualization.
Challenges: To ensure reliable communication between LabVIEW and Arduino, accurate data collection from multiple sensors, and minimizing time delays in data collection.
